I believe every student deserves an educational environment that empowers them to embrace hard things, believe in themselves, be kind to themselves and others, fail fast, thrive, succeed, and feel joy. I work to cultivate an environment that fosters a strong relationship of trust and is centered on the student. This coming school year, I’m excited to be the music teacher at Ascent for all students kindergarten through sixth grade. Music is a gift. Music can speak the feelings and things we cannot put into words.
I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in both elementary education and elementary music in 2010. Since that time some of my jobs have included teaching elementary music, orchestra, instructional coach, third grade, computer science and educational technology. A couple years ago, I offered to substitute when Ascent needed a third grade teacher, and ended up loving the students, the school, the learning, the people all so much I couldn’t leave it and decided to stay.
Some of my favorite things outside of school:
My family is so important to me! I’m married and have a 12yo, 11yo, and 9yo (two of which attend Ascent.) We have a puppy, Buddy, and a bearded dragon named Spiko. I love to be outside, to go on adventures, yoga, water, mountains, nature, music, thrill rides, volleyball, cold plunging, pushing myself to try things that might be scary, sleep (never enough), chocolate, food from real ingredients, geeking out on the how the brain works, or on tech, Wonder Woman, Jeeps, music, games. The list could go on.
