I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade at Ascent. I have been teaching for 16 years and am really enjoying working with this age group. It’s so fun to see them get excited about learning and to see how the skills they’ve been developing can really be applied in practical situations. I have a STEM endorsement and love teaching science. My favorite part of teaching is guiding students to embrace the wonder in the world around them and to be curious about life in general.

I actually began my career as a newspaper journalist and was managing editor of the newspaper at Utah State University when I graduated. I worked as a reporter and copy editor for a few years before my kids were born then decided being an educator was
what I truly wanted to do. I got my teaching degree from Weber State University and have been teaching ever since!

Outside of school I enjoy kayaking and hiking with my husband and two dogs. I have a son and daughter who are both in college – one at Weber State University and the other at Utah State University. I love to read, and my favorite food is popcorn.
